There are a few things you need to think about when selecting a service for sending your personal effects. Urgency of delivery, ultimate destination and cost are all a part in choosing the method of shipment that is right for you. By sea – your belongings share container space with other shipments bound for the same destination. Baggage Boys is a large operator and offers frequent containers to South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, North America and S.E Asia. Approximate transit times are around 8 to 12 weeks, depending on the destination. By air – Transit is between 7 to 14 days. We also offer a faster Courier service which can be more cost effective for smaller shipments. Transit is around 5 to 7 days door to door. By road – consignments going to European destinations are delivered by road service and to kerbside at your European residence. Transit time is around 10 to 14 days.
Consignments paid to arrival port or airport will incur additional costs for customs clearance, handling charges, de-consolidation charges and GST, if applicable. With our economical prices it is generally more cost-effective to use our door-to-door service for delivery to kerbside at your residence.
Offering an extensive range of strong cartons designed to withstand the rigours of transit. We will supply bubble wrap and tape free of charge for owner packing of fragile items, if requested, we can professionally pack your effects for an additional cost. You should ensure that breakables are placed in the centre of the box and packed tightly to prevent movement in transit. Heavy items such as books should be evenly distributed throughout your consignment to limit risks of damage. Also, avoid packing clothing in plastic bags, as condensation will occur. If in doubt contact us for advice. Ply over-cases are available at £35 to £90 depending on the size for TV’s or other fragile items.
Our cartons will cater for most owner packing needs. We can also construct ply cases to your specific dimensions for the transportation of electrical and fragile items. Cartons are free so we suggest you order a few extra to your initial requirement, as a return trip will incur an extra delivery fee. We also ship suitcases, bags, guitars, skis, surfboards, snowboards, bikes etc.
We offer a next day nationwide delivery of cartons and packing materials and free collection within London and will advise you of a 3 hour AM or PW time slot. We will require a £50 non-refundable deposit prior to delivery and you may then keep the cartons for as long as you wish. If you live outside London, we employ the services of a next day national courier who will collect at 48 hours’ notice. A Debit or Credit card deposit will be required prior to delivery. Nationwide collection charges are as follows: Collection – £14 for one item + £7 for each extra item. Courier services are limited to what one man can lift from kerbside. You should therefore limit your boxes or items to a maximum 5 cubic feet/35 Kgs per item. Please note that any package considered unsuitable for export will be repacked back at our depot and will attract a packing fee. We therefore recommend you use our cartons which are designed to withstand the rigours of international transit.
Sea and road freight charges are based on the overall volume of goods for shipment. To calculate the volume of an item multiply the length, breadth and height in feet, e.g. a trunk measuring 3ft x 2.5ft x 2ft. = 15 cubic feet. Airfreight charges are based on the chargeable weight of your consignment in kilos. This is the greater of actual gross or volumetric weight. To calculate the volumetric weight multiply the length x breadth x height in centimetres, divided by 4000- 5000 – 6000 = volumetric kilos (DEPENDING ON CARRIER) Courier charges are based on the chargeable weight of your consignment in kilos.
The door-to-port service includes nationwide delivery of cartons and packing materials, one free collection in London, UK customs formalities, all UK port handling charges and shipment to arrival destination port or airport. The door-to-door service also includes destination customs clearance, handling and de-consolidation charges, delivery to kerbside at residence and GST (if applicable). Please note that VAT does not apply to consignments shipped outside of the EU.
Destination import duties, taxes or other sums due to government departments, e.g. Goods and Services Tax (GST) where applicable, quarantine examination or steam cleaning fees, if ordered. Consignments paid to port only will attract additional charges for customs clearance, handling, de-consolidation fees and GST, if applicable. For information on destination customs formalities please refer to Customs care or contact your embassy or consular office.
Certain items cannot be accepted under general conditions of carriage and storage, e.g. creams, liquids, food, cash, bonds, jewelry, alcohol, explosives, flammable gases, lithium batteries, poisons and toxins, scuba tanks, gas cylinders, aerosol cans, ink or printer cartridges. Any package containing a prohibited item will be subject to a surcharge of £50 and the prohibited items will be removed and destroyed. If in doubt, speak to one of our qualified consultants.
We take every precaution to protect your possessions while they are in our care. Nevertheless, we recommend you cover your goods for a sum equivalent to replacement value at destination. Our Protection Cover, covers All Risks of loss or Including weather, water, fire and force damage, but excluding breakage damage. in transit and is available at a premium of 5% of the value you declare on our Insurance Proposal form. Alternatively we can offer protection against Total Loss for a premium of 3.5% of the value you declare. Please note that should you decline our protection cover, we will rely upon our terms and conditions (clause 8) in the unforeseen event of loss or damage, however caused.
If you are travelling en route we can store your goods and arrange shipment to coincide with your estimated arrival date. Our storage facilities are modern, customs approved and security protected. Storage is available from a rate of £10.00 per box / item / piece per month and commences 7 days following collection.
Following the collection of your shipment you will receive a shipping confirmation email with details of vessel/airline, container identification number, estimated date of arrival at the destination port/airport and details of our local agent.
When your consignment arrives at the destination port or airport our appointed agent will contact you to arrange customs and quarantine formalities and a date for delivery to kerbside at residence (if prepaid). Each Agent has been selected for their local knowledge and the quality of their destination services; they will handle everything at destination with the same care and attention to detail as will Baggage Boys agents at origin.
We will require a £50 deposit prior to delivery of empty cartons. We accept Debit Cards, and Credit Cards (Visa & Master Card, for non-Uk Debit Cards there is a 3% surcharge applicable). Please do not pay the driver or send cash through the post. Our terms require payment in full prior to shipment. All business is undertaken subject to our Terms and Conditions; available on request. Your attention is particularly drawn to Clauses 8, 9, 10, 11 which set out our liability to you for loss of or damage to goods and property and the time limit for claims, and to clause 6 which sets out our policy regarding cancellations. All refunds are at managements discretion without prejudice. The Client has the right to cancel the contract within 7 days of payment of the deposit as long as no goods or services have been delivered. Refunds will be made to the card that the deposit was taken from. All refunds must be requested via email here firstname.lastname@example.org
